Each episode starts off with the introduction stating the main purpose of the show. Penn & Teller come out and sit down at the center stage. They watch eager magicians will perform their magic in front of them with a live studio audience. After each show,Penn & Teller privately talk while the host interview the magicians. Penn & Teller then reveal their knowledge of the method used to perform the trick,in a cryptic manner,usually by using language or noting down the procedure and then present it to the magicians in order to verify,so they are not publicly exposing the secrets behind the trick.

In the television show,Penn and Teller: Fool Us,magicians perform magic routines before American comedians and magicians Penn & Teller. If a trick is unsolved after each performance,the magician who performed it receives the Fool Us trophy and a five-star vacation to Las Vegas.

Performers are also asked to perform during the intermission of Penn Teller`s live Las Vegas show,where the audience members aren`t aware in advance that the illusion is being performed in their place.
Teller remains quiet throughout the the show,however they do communicate through subtle gestures between them. They`re known to speak with magicians performing and request them to repeat certain actions or to provide additional information.
